Mr. Bendicto Ssajjabi Maseruka is the Acting Head of the Department of Water Resources Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Busitema University. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Water Resources Engineering from Busitema University and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Environmental Engineering option) from Makerere University. He is also a Provisional Corporate Member of the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE).
At Busitema University, Mr. Maseruka actively contributes to teaching, research, and curriculum development. He lectures and mentors students across both structural and water engineering disciplines, including Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Theory and Design of Structures, Hydropower Planning and Design, Water Supply Systems, Wastewater Treatment, and Computer Programming with MATLAB applications. He also oversees final year projects, industrial training, and departmental quality assurance processes.
Alongside his academic responsibilities, Mr. Maseruka is engaged in professional consultancy and design practice. He has worked as a Design Engineer on several rural growth centre and small-town water supply projects in Uganda. His professional experience spans feasibility studies, detailed designs, hydraulic modeling, financial analysis, and construction supervision.
His research interests lie at the intersection of water resources engineering, computational modeling, and emerging technologies. These include:
- Data-driven and machine learning approaches for water supply and distribution network optimization, and water resources planning and management
- Real-time monitoring and control of water systems (IoT, SCADA, and digital twins)
- Climate-resilient hydrological modeling and sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS)
- Environmental and water quality management in catchments impacted by mining and human activity
Mr. Maseruka is passionate about mentorship and academic leadership, working to strengthen the linkage between academia, industry, and government. He continues to spearhead initiatives that integrate innovation, research, and professional practice to improve water infrastructure systems in Uganda and beyond.
